Happy Easter

Since I'm off to my mom's for the weekend (a.k.a. the Land of No Internet) I'm posting early this week.  And in honour of the long weekend, let me share with you my Pony Easter display from last year.

The residents of Unicornia were looking forward to a quiet morning.  But then the Spring Ponies showed up to celebrate the change of the season and they weren't taking no for an answer...
Whistle Wishes: *yawn* "...what the?"
Lolligiggle: "GOOD MORNING!  COME GET YOUR CHOCOLATE EGGS BEFORE THEY'RE ALL GONE!"
Whistle Wishes: "...gah..."

Doseydotes: "So many eggs..."
Yesterdaisy: "...so little time."
Flower Wishes: "DO YOU SEE ANYTHING UP THERE DAWN?"
Morning Dawn Delight: "I GOT ONE!  I GOT ONE!"
Toodleloo: "I love hiding Easter eggs."
Spring Treat: "I love eating them!"
Garden Wishes: "What the?"Cheerilee: "I know you wanted to have a nice breakfast, so I brought you some chocolate eggs so you don't miss out on all of them while you eat!"
Sunrise Song: "Somehow I don't think we're going to have the quiet day we'd envisioned."

Gigglebean: "They'll never find these eggs!"
Bashful Bonnet: "I hope they'll find them eventually!"
Brights Brightly: "Skedoodle, we appreciate your enthusiasm, but we really wanted a quiet..."
Sweetie Belle: "Omigosh!  There's so many chocolate eggs everywhere!"
Rarity: "This is awesome!  We should do this every week!"
Brights Brightly: *sigh* "...never mind."
The full display
Hope the Easter Bunny brings you lots of chocolate and Ponies.

Buster Bear

This past week I said goodbye to a best friend of 13 years.

It was quick and unexpected and for that I am glad because he didn't suffer any pain.

Buster joined our family at 4 weeks of age, when he was found alone on the side of the road.  Unable to find where he belonged, we adopted him.  He weighed less than a pound.

Buster at 6 weeks
He was one of the friendliest cats I've ever met.  He loved everyone, even my two year old nephew whom the other cats regarded with caution or outright unfounded terror.  He wasn't overly fond of some of the other cats he lived with over the years, but he was known to cuddle up with his adopted older brother, Cosmo.

When I went to grad school Cos and Buster moved in with me and stayed with me ever since, from the studio apartment to the three bedroom I shared with Roomy and her two cats to the townhouse with Roomy, her senior cat, and the two kittens.
He was my buddy.  He will be missed.

MLP Fair Prep, Part 3: Work in Progress

I don't usually post WIPs, but in this case it amuses me too much not to.

OK, so right now it looks like Pinkie Pie in some sort of weird costume, but in actual fact it's a WIP Cthulhu custom.

You see, H. P. Lovecraft lived in Rhode Island, and he wrote horror.  Really scary horror.  The kind of horror you shouldn't read when you're alone in the house on a dark and stormy night.  The Call of Cthulhu is one of those stories.  Since the MLP Fair is also in Rhode Island this year, I couldn't resist making this pony.

Now, obviously, My Little Cthulhu isn't going to inspire terror in anyone (well, maybe Lovecraft purists.)  But she'll easily be the cutest little Ancient One around.

MLP Fair Prep, Part 2

Just a short post this week.  I've been thinking a good deal about the upcoming MLP Fair, and already looking forward to the trip in July.

I've managed to get a few of the sale/trade Ponies cleaned up and ready for the Fair.  A nice group shot hides a multitude of flaws, but overall most of these actually look pretty good.  I'll have to get to work on pricing these sooner or later...more work!

There's still a tonne more sales/trade ponies in need of some TLC waiting their turn, too.  The next question will be how to fit everyone into the car for the trip down...

The great Pony Room Reorg - volume 5

Things are not proceeding as quickly as I'd like.

So basically everything's still a mess.  There aren't enough hours in the day, especially as I'm working a fair bit of overtime lately.  A girl can only do so much.  However, a small amount of progress has been made.

I've got a new bookcase.  New to me, anyway, it's an old one from the living room and not in the best of shape.  It's been replaced, and the cast off has a new lease on life as a Pony shelf.  At the moment it's a catch all, but it will soon be displaying some of my collection.

And not a moment to soon.  I really need to get some stuff off the floor so I've got some space to move around and reorg stuff.

A few favorites - part 4

I'm generally a sucker for any Custom Swap that involves literature, mythology, or the like.  So when Roselynn_Thornwood hosted a Mythology Swap on the Arena, of course I wanted to participate.

Roselynn was my partner and her list was all from Norse mythology, which is also a favourite of mine.  I decided to create a Freya Pony for her.

Freya was made of a Cherry Blossom bait, rehaired with Dollyhair Pumpkin Spice, Tigerlily, Golden Goddess, Caramel Cream, and Golden Sun.  Her eyes were repainted and I included the golden tears that Freya cries as she searches for her husband.  She is also wearing Brisings' necklace, which was created of gold paint and jewels.  Because Freya is the goddess of both love and war, her symbol is a sword with a heart-shaped jewel on it.

Freya is also known for her chariot pulled by Tabbycats, so naturally I included some friends for her.  The Tabbies were created with Apoxie Clay over a wire frame and painted with Reaper Master Series acrylics.

A few favorites - part 3

When I finished my 100th custom I wanted to do something to mark the event.  So I held a free raffle on the Arena with the winner getting a custom of their choice.  KittyBethy's name was drawn as the winner and she designed a beautiful basic custom that I was happy to make.

Autumn Bloom is made from a Golden Delicious bait, rehaired with Dollyhair Pumpkin Spice and Deadly Nightshade.  Her eyes were repained.

I am particularly proud of her symbol, which was painted freehand.  I do enjoy floral symbols, but I tend not to actually do one unless it's requested by someone else (or it's a rose, I have a weakness for roses.)  Autumn is one of my favourite customs because of the symbol, and because I think KittyBethy really came up with a beautiful design.  It was a pleasure to bring her to life.
